Salt Lake’s Sweetheart

Salt Lake City is a place I NEVER imagined I’d go, nevertheless ENJOY thoroughly. I mean, Utah, of all places??? Maybe it was my small mind, never seeing or hearing about people -black people (in my world at least) going there for leisure or a combination of both. It was just not on my radar - until 2018.

While being there for a conference for meeting planners, I was courted by several CVBs (which is ALWAYS awwweeesssooommmeee). They want you to see and experience the very best of their cities in hopes that your organization brings your meeting/conference to their town.

This is the ultimate “being FLEWED out” experience. It solidifies the statement, “if they want you, they’re going to come and get you”.

But back to Salt Lake- it’s BEAUTIFUL. I remember the hotel I stayed in being very very nice, the streets being pristine and the sunset nestled between mountain peaks being breathtaking.

Upon arrival, I allowed myself to really release all preconceived notions about Utah. I even told myself that I would not give the thought about how very few Black people I encountered (outside of the conference) receive any of my energy. Nor would I let being there by myself allow me to feel awkward or introverted. I set my intentions - to be served, made a fuss over, pleased, to have fun, and to simply show up! Best decision ever.

My trip to Salt Lake gave me liiiifffeeeee! The new experiences it provided me totally UPGRADED every cell in my DNA. I did things I had never done. From strolling through their outdoor/indoor mall with a River like stream flowing through to the scary ass ski lift ride with big beautiful deer (I don’t know what the hell they were lol) and luxury homes below our feet to partying in the mountains - I felt alive and brand new!

Imagine being picked up in a plush charter bus, filled with beautiful, diverse people from all over the country to be whisked away to some super exclusive shindig in the MOUNTAINS! That was only the first day…

The conference itself was top notch, showcasing new technology, apps and programs for meeting planners. There were VIP and invite only sections, champagne and wine endlessly floating around, high end caterers with elegant displays everywhere - WOW! Not to mention our keynote speaker that year was Neil Patrick Harris - to some of us he’s forever #DoogieHowserMD. He was actually very engaging and hilarious!

The following night included private parties in cute little night life districts hidden on winding roads up more mountains. Those streets were laced with new developments, swank bars and lounges, high end boutiques, with luxury cabins & homes jutting out the sides of the afar off hills in the distance.

The final activity was spent in the museum. It too had been closed to the public for our closing reception. Live bands filled spaces with hits from the 90s, jazz, top 40 and r&b. There were special presentations and exhibits found in every nook and food/wine/cocktails found in every cranny.

During that trip, I found myself making new acquaintances and reconnecting with familiar faces from the first couple of conferences I attended.

It felt AMAZING to be out in the world experiencing and witnessing OPULENCE. Riding past the Church of Latter Day Saints reminded me that my beliefs in Divinity & Abundance go hand in hand. That sucka, meaning the actual structure- the building itself, is GRAND! I might be exaggerating but I believe it was trimmed in GOLD!

The treatment and experiences made me leave feeling like Salt Lake’s Sweetheart.

It doesn‘t have to be Utah, but this is what I want for you ♥️
